  1. Readme.1st             Welcome to ChecTrak 1.0

  4.   A few things to cover before you dive into the program.
  5.

  7.   System Requirements:
  8.  
  9.   1. Hard Disk:
  10.      To get started we reccomend 1 meg of hard drive space. The program
  11.      with all docs etc occupies about 310k of disk space. Another 3-400k
  12.      of space is required when the program swaps to disk for running DOS
  13.      commands from within the program. Some files may be deleted, see
  14.      below. Also, as your data files grow, they will require more room.
  15.  
  16.      The program can be run from a floppy, but is much more efficient
  17.      from a hard disk. This will be discussed further.
  18.  
  19.   2. Memory:   ChecTrak 1.0 requires 400k of available memory to run
  20.      correctly. 500k or better is strongly advised, to get optimum use
  21.      from the program. A 640k system is strongly reccomended.
  22.  
  23.   3. DOS Ver.  ChecTrak 1.0 was originally designed with Dos 3.3, but
  24.      should run well with any 3.x version. Runs under 4.0 and 5.0 also.
  25.      I have never tested with versions earlier than 3.3, if you do run
  26.      it under earlier versions, or if you have trouble with earlier
  27.      versions, I'd like to know about it.

  29.   4. Video: Will run under MONO, CGA, EGA, VGA. ChecTrak 1.0 will
  30.      automatically recognize the video. If you're running mono, you're
  31.      gonna miss some of the great color benifits.
  32.  
  33.   5. Printer: A printer is required for the Shareware version to obtain
  34.      printed reports. The registered version allows printing to a file,
  35.      for later printing.
  36.  
  37.   6. Your Config.Sys file should containe the following:
  38.      Files=30
  39.      Buffers=20
  40.      These are the suggested minimum for database programs. If you are
  41.      using a Disk Cache you can lower the buffer statement.
  42.      Higher figures for files & buffers use more system memory, but
  43.      provide for better and faster program execution.
  44.  
  45.   To Install:
  46.  
  47.      Make a directory on your Hard drive ie: \CTRAK then place the
  48.      CTRAK10.ZIP in that directory and unpack it, PKUZIP CTRAK10
  49.      If you do not have a copy of PKUNZIP, you should be able to obtain
  50.      it from the BBS where you downloaded the file.

  52.      RRUN.EXE may be placed in another directory, that is in your
  53.      PATH statement. But CT.COM needs to reside in the same
  54.      directory as the program files.
  55.  
  56.      Once the program has been unzipped, you can view or print the
  57.      documentation one of two ways.
  58.  
  59.      From the DOS prompt: type VIEWDOC to read the manual in a scrolling
  60.      window.  To print, enter either: copy CTRAK10.DOC prn - or -
  61.      type CTRAK10.DOC>prn
  62.  
  63.      OR type CT to start ChecTrak 1.0, press F10  from the
  64.      Main Menu. There will be choices to view and print the Manual
  65.      from the Menu.

  68.      Files Required:
  69.  
  70.      The following files ARE required to run ChecTrak 1.0.
  71.  
  72.      *.DAT           The data files.
  73.      *.K##           #= a digit; the index files
  74.      *.MEM           The Memo files
  75.      RRUN.EXE        The Runtime Engine: May be in another directory
  76.                      thats listed in your PATH statement.
  77.     CTRAK10S.RUN     The Program Module
  78.           CT.COM     Runs the Program. Must be in Program Directory

  81.      Files For Deletion:
  82.  
  83.      The following files can be deleted, we reccomend that you do not do
  84.      so right away. Please read the manual before you do delete them.

  87.      CTRAK10.DOC        Program Manual
  88.      CUSTOM.DOC         How to get your program modified
  89.      REGISTER.FRM       Form for registering ChecTrak
  90.      NEWSTART.COM       This file should be run after you have familarized
  91.                         youreself with the program, and tried some entries.
  92.                         It will erase ALL supplied practice data/index &
  93.                         Memo files, ChecTrak will generate new/empty files
  94.                         on next startup, for your use.
  95.      VIEWDOC.COM        Autoview of the Program Manual
  96.      PRNDOC.COM         Prints Manual
  97.      RPTSAMPL.###       Sample Reports for Registered Version

  100.      Running From Floppy:
  101.  
  102.      ChecTrak 1.0 can be run from a floppy, 360k will work. You will
  103.      need the files listed on the previous page under required files.
  104.      Two things to remember, the data files you create along with the
  105.      index files will reside on the same disk, in the same directory. As
  106.      the required program files use up almost 200k, this leaves little
  107.      room for data and index files. A 1.2 floppy would be best.
  108.  
  109.      While ChecTrak 1.0 is very easy to use, it is strongly
  110.      reccomended that you read the manual, its only about 11 pages long,
  111.      and it will make learning the program even easier.
